Education

  • B.S., Chemical Engineering, Iowa State University, 2016

Travis Hattery earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University, and he is currently pursuing a PhD student in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. His research interests include metabolomics, pathway modeling, and systems biology. Travis is currently analyzing and quantifying maize silk surface lipids to help decipher the underlying metabolic pathways that synthesize these metabolites. Collecting and analyzing samples grown in multiple locations over multiple years, he will help create a large amount of genotype-phenotype data for use in genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Teaching is a passion for Travis. He currently serves as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate lab courses, and is pursuing a Graduate Student Teaching Certificate. Also, he is an active participant in the Preparing Future Faculty program at Iowa State University.

Outside of academia, Travis is an active percussionist in the state of Iowa. Having been a member of several world-class drum and bugle corps around the country, he now instructs the Iowa State University Marching Band, teaches several high school programs in Central Iowa, and also adjudicates percussion at Iowa high school marching band competitions.
